So David Winderlich became an independent .
Well you could have knocked me over with a feather at that news.
Did anybody actually think that they would recruit 1000 new members?
If you are part of the Australian Democrats and especially if you are on a committee or were a serving parliamentarian you are well aware of the constitution of the party which states:
4.7 Each member shall be bound … to :
Uphold and comply with the Party’s Constitution and Regulations
11.2b If elected the candidate agrees that whilst he may retain the
right to resign from the Party, if he does so he will resign the
parliamentary seat beforehand.
So the party elected him to the position to replace the sitting member Sandra Kanck ,which he accepted ,and followed party rules to get there .
He also according to information given to me gave the party until Nov 23rd to recruit the members.
However he has now gone independent and has ridden into parliament on the back of the Australian Democrats and then dumped them a few months out from the election.
Was this really the right thing to do given the constitution and regulations that he was a part of being a member of the party?
